Construction gets underway!
The Ducklings were thrilled to watch the diggers make a start on the new playground this morning. They will enjoy watching the progress over the next few weeks.

African Straw Huts
The Ducklings have been creating their own African straw huts, just like the ones that Handa and Akeyo live in, in the Handa's Surprise story. They had to choose which materials they would use and select the tools that they would need and use them with control and care.

Tasting Tropical Fruit
Following on from reading the Handa's Surprise story, we enjoyed tasting the different fruits on Friday. Some of the children tried everything! Some tried just a few. Some Ducklings were very cautious and watched their friends try first, then were brave enough to have a taste too!!

The Ducklings have been learning to use the comparative vocabulary of length and height. They compared their object with a friend's, saying whether their object was longer/shorter or taller/shorter than their friends.

Chinese dragon dancing
The Ducklings have enjoyed finding out about how Chinese new year is celebrated. They have loved watching video clips of the lion and dragon dances. Outside, they have reenacted their own dragon dances together, while some children played percussion instruments to dance along to.
