Welcome to Eagles Class
Year 5/6
Our class teachers are Mrs Bagwell on a Monday/Tuesday and Mrs Billington on a Wednesday/Thursday/Friday.
Mrs White supports us with our learning each morning and Mrs Crooks supports us with our learning each afternoon.
Our topic this term is The Mayans and we will be reading 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell.
Spellings
Children will be given a set of spellings to learn each week based on different spelling patterns. Please help your child to learn their spellings each week.
Reading
Year 5/6 have an excellent attitude to reading. The skill of reading is one of the most important we teach our children. It is a life skill that enables them to extend their concepts, gain information as the basis for other learning and to gain access to the magical world of fantasy. Just as children walk, talk and grow at different times, so their progression through the skills of reading will be at different rates. The key is for your child to feel positive about themselves as a reader right from the start. To become a fluent reader, your child needs to take on many skills and continue to practice these throughout their lives. Some are specific skills which can be taught, others relate to attitudes, and these they will gain from the adults around them. We ask therefore that you read with your child at least 3 times a week. Children will be supplied a reading book, however to keep them engaged feel free to read with them the books that interest them, those that take them to a world of make believe, that encourage them to dream and introduce them to the amazing vocabulary that surrounds them.
PE
PE sessions will take place each Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes dressed in their PE kits on these days. Please ensure you send your child with a bottle of water.
Snack & Water
Children are able to bring in their own snack for playtime. This can be a cereal/breakfast bar (please no sugary cereal bars), fruit or veg. We would really like to encourage children to bring in their own water bottles each day. This ensures that they are able to have a drink regularly throughout the day. Please ensure the bottle is clearly labelled with your child's name.
Please ensure you are checking in on class dojo daily to see what the children have been up to. We will be using this platform to communicate everything that is happening in school, the newsletter, important dates.
If you need to contact us you can message us on dojo. Please be aware of our working days so that your message reaches the correct teacher on the correct day. If your message is about an important issue please message both of us. Many thanks.
